RICE, Charles W. – Died, at his home on Pea Ridge, Thursday Sept. 15, 1892, Chas. W. Rice, aged 79 year. The deceased was one of our oldest citizens. He had been here since 1859. He was a Royal Arch Mason in good standing at the time of his death and was beloved of all who knew him; was a member of the M.E. Church, South for more than 60 years. It is with sorrow we chronicle the death of Charles W. Rice, one of our highly esteemed old settlers of Benton county, the sad event occurring at his home on Pea Ridge Thursday September 15th, 1892 after a short illness. The deceased was born in Roane county, Tennessee April 13th, 1813 and came to this county in 1859 where he has resided ever since. He was a Royal Arch Mason and had been a member of the M.E. church, South over 60 years. HE was well known and highly respected and there are many sorrowing friends who with a devoted wife and loving children mourn his loss. Saturday the funeral services were held in Buttram's Chapel, Pea Ridge, Reverend E. Buttram officiating, after which the remains were laid to rest under the imposing ceremony of the Masonic Order.
