Services held Monday afternoon for Robert Bloom age 27, popular and well liked young man whose untimely death took place in Minneapolis at approximately 6:00 last Thursday evening. Mr. Bloom had suffered from a heart condition since he was 14 years of age being afflicted with an incurable type of ailment which he knew limited his life's span. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Bloom who reside on a farm one mile south of Shafer.
He was one of six brothers all of whom are well known throughout this community and especially for their singing abilities. Often times the six brothers sang together and Robert was one of the mainstays in the sextet. Services held for him were largely attended by his many young friends, elders as well and the many relatives who came from far and near. Officiating was the Rev J Walton Kempe, pastor of the church in which Robert had held membership for many years. The choir, to which the deceased belonged, sang in his memory and pallbearers were: Everett Hawkinson, Rudolph Nelson, Carroll Ogren, Deforest Pierson, Carl Johnson and Lloyd Benson. Interment was in the Chisago Lakes Cemetery.
Robert, who worked for years as a salesman in Minneapolis, had gone to the home of his sister, Mrs. Lester Mattson in Minneapolis, Thursday evening and was visiting there when he suddenly dropped dead. Surviving him are his parents Mr. and Mrs. William Bloom of Shafer, four sisters, Mrs. (Helen) Gerhard Park of St Paul, Mrs. (Lillian ) Johnson of Minneapolis, Mrs. (Ruth) Van Akan of Winona and Mrs. (Grace) Jack Turbox of Atlanta, Georgia and five brothers Bryon Bloom of St Paul, Richard Bloom of Minneapolis, Don, Ralph and Wilbert of the home place.
The deceased was born Feb 11, 1922 on a farm north of Taylors Falls and later moved with his parents to the present place 1 miles south of Shafer. He attended schools in Taylors Falls and high school at Lindstrom-Center City and then became a salesman for different firms in Minneapolis. During his time in the city he visited his home and friends here many times. Besides his family is mourned by many of the younger set with whom he was widely acquainted.
