Henry Watson Gay, 72, died at his residence, 509 Adams Street, last Thursday.


A retired farmer, he was a member of the Smith Street Baptist Church. A native of Burke County,Georgia, he had lived here for the past sixteen years. He was the son of the late Walter and Fannie Gay.


Funeral services were held Friday afternoon from the Smith Street Baptist Church, with the pastor the Rev. J.B. Bowen, officiating. Interment was in Pinecrest Cemetery with Frank Murchison Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.


Pallbearers were: Junior Allmond, Quay Allmond, Sammy Meeks, S.B. Morris, Lamar Powell, T.R. Allmond. Honorary pallbearers were Ray Waller, Kenneth Williamson, Barrett Brantley, W.T. Avant, George E. Gillis, Willie Beckum, Brooks Brantley, R.E. Palmer.


Survivors include his wife, Mrs. H.W. Gay of Vidalia; four daughters, Mrs. T.C. Mills of Savannah, Mrs. Melvin Mixon, Mrs. Ferris Humphrey, Mrs. Joan Browning, all of Vidalia; four sons, Curtis Gay of Savannah, Elmer Gay of Macon, Alby Gay of Vidalia and Emerson Gay of Jesup; one sister, Mrs. A.G. Meeks of Vidalia; two brothers, George R Gay of Vidalia, and John Gay of Swainsboro, 19 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
