August L. Koenecke Died at Iowa City
Dolliver Merchant Passed away Last Saturday – Is Survived by His Wife and Child
This community was deeply grieved to hear of the death of August L. Koenecke, the popular hardware merchant of Dolliver. He passed away at a hospital in Iowa City, and from here was taken to his former home. Mr.Koenecke was one of the most popular men of the Dolliver community. Honest and straightforward in all his business dealing, he made a circle of friends that remained with him until death. He had many friends in this city. In fact he was known throughout the county as a man among men. Many of his friends from Estherville attended the services which were held from the Methodist church in Dolliver yesterday. Rev. Bishop paid a beautiful tribute to the life of the departed. Mr. Koenecke was thirty-four years of age at the time of his death. He was born on a farm near Huntington, where he grew to manhood. He is survived by a wife and daughter, nine years of age, a father and mother, and six brothers and five sisters. The remains were laid to rest in the Dolliver cemetery. We join the large circle of friends in extending deepest sympathy to the loved ones who mourn his loss. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, July 10, 1918)
