She married Philip Fry Spencer 1 April 1886 in Jacksonville, Morgan County, Illinois. They were parents of three children: Myra Eathel, wife of Edward Kennedy; Ralph Leston, who married Lois Edna Curtis; and Willard Greenup, husband of Mary F. Jackson.

Julia Ann was very interested in family history, and it was her daughter Myra's daughters Marjorie Pauline Kennedy Peak and Helen Elece Kennedy Coats who, with their husbands Charles Peak and Clem Coats, cleaned the cemetery of brush and undergrowth and restored it from a dreadful state in 1989. Pauline and Charles' daughter Myra Lee Peak is caring for it now.
