Born in Platte County, MO, James Edward McComas was the son of William Burke McComas and his wife Nancy D. Heath who had married in Cabell Co VA (now WV) and migrated into early Platte Co MO 1839. He married 25 Oct 1871 Nancy 'Nannie' Elizabeth Karr born 9 May 1851, the daughter of William S. Karr and Sarah Jane Wills from Platte County, MO. James Edward McComas left Missouri and moved to Yukon, OK as did his brother Israel Heath McComas. Together they operated the Commercial Hotel. (Another relative, Sanders Witcher McComas settled in El Reno, OK.) James E McComas settled in Yukon in 1896. James and Nancy (Kerr) McComas stated they had had 10 children, only 7 surviving to 1910.


His obituary read:
James Edward McComas was born October 25, 1845 in Platte County MO and there grew to manhood and was married to Nancy Elizabeth Karr , October 25, 1871. To this union 10 children were born, seven still living and three preceeded him in death. He lived in Missouri until coming to Oklahoma in Apr 1896 where he has resided in and near Yukon. Died March 8, 1913 age 67 years, four months and 11 days. He is survived by a wife and three sons, four daughters and four brothers. C.G. McComas of Little Rock, Ark.; W.C. McComas, I.S. McComas of Pagosia Springs, Colo.; Lula B. Bradbury of Toppenish, Washington; Mary E. Stafford of El Reno; Jessie M. Nicodemus of Pauls Valley and Nancy J. Drake of Yukon.

A 2nd article said: Death of Jas. E. McComas: Jas. E. McComas, who has been seriously ill for some time, died at his home last Saturday at 1 o'clock pm. His condition had been serious for some time and his death was only a matter of time. Mr. McComas is well known to all the old timers in Yukon and was well liked by all his many acquaintances. During the past few months that he has been sick he suffered much and death came as a great relief to him. The funeral was held at the home Sunday afternoon and the body laid to rest in the Yukon Cemetery. The Sun unites with their many friends in extending to the bereaved family their heartfelt sympathy.
