Born in Cabell Co VA (now WV), Elisha McComas was the son of William Burke McComas and his wife Nancy D. (Heath) McComas who had migrated along with their parents and extended families into early Platte County, MO in 1839. Elisha McComas married on 12 Nov 1857, Hannah Catherine Lutes, the daughter of Joseph Lutes and Sara Steele. Elisha McComas served the Union as a private in the 39th Reg Enrolled Missouri Militia under Capt Fitzgerald, enlisting 25 Aug 1862 and was listed as 'having deserted' Apr 25 1863 with 80 days of service. It was not uncommon in these early days for soldiers to return home. His parents were members of the early Methodist Episcopal Church in Platte Co. MO.
