Moses McComas was born in Cabell Co VA (now WV), the son of William Burke McComas and Nancy D. Heath who had married 16 Feb 1832 in Cabell County. He was one of 11 children born to this marriage. His mother Nancy was the daughter of Israel Heath and Elizabeth Blue. This was one of five marriages between the Israel Heath and Moses McComas family from Cabell County, VA. Moses McComas and most of his extended family, and Israel Heath and all of his extended family left Cabell Co VA and moved into early Platte Co MO 1839/1840. William Burke McComas was described as a 'tall person, and of powerful frame; his judgement was sound, and his influence extensive.'

Named after his grandfather Moses McComas born 1839 was an infant when first entering Platte Co Mo., his father settling into Carroll Township. The Union Chapel School in north-central Carroll Twp was originally a log school called the 'McComas School' for landowner William Burke McComas.

Moses McComas grew to maturity and married on 29 Feb 1860, Adaline Kerr, the daughter of William Kerr and Elizabeth Dugan. One of Adaline's sisters married into the Heath family. For a few years during the Civil War, Moses and Adaline left MO and went into Kansas where his brother Sanders W. McComas who had also left Platte Co MO was living. Later, Moses and Adaline returned.Moses and Adaline McComas raised the following children:

Dies After Three Days
Aged Man Who Suffers Stroke of Paralysis On Streets Passes Away
Moses McComas became ill Thursday and succumbed to attack Sunday night at his home near Maryville. Within three days after being stricken with paralysis on the streets of Maryville, Moses McComas living two miles southeast of this city, passed away, his death taking place Sunday night. Besides a wife the dead man is survived by five children, six brothers and two sisters. The children are William B. McComas who lives southeast of Maryville, James H. McComas of Platte Co., Mrs. F.M. Dick of Clinton Co., Mrs. J.T. Tebow of southeast of Maryville and Miss Addie McComas who is at home. Pembrook, Stephen and Hiram McComas, brothers of the dead man live in Platte Co. There are also Sanders McComas of Excelsior Springs, James McComas of Ft. Collins, Co. and Mrs. I.S. Miller of Platte County. Came from VA. Moses McComas was born in Virginia and came to Missouri in his infancy, much of his life being spent in Platte County and at Stanberry. Since the year 1896 he had lived on a farm near Maryville. Forty seven years ago he married Miss Adeline Kerr in Platte County. Last Thursday afternoon he was stricken with paralysis while getting into his wagon in front of Brink and Holmes Store. He fell to the ground and had to be taken home in an ambulance. He failed in strength until his death. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the First Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Grant A. Robbins. Burial follows in Miriam Cemetery.
