Joe Strohecker Funeral Held at Methodist Church
Funeral services were conducted at the First Methodist church chapel, Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 3:00 p.m. for Joe Strohecker, 74, who passed away on Monday morning, September 12, in his room located at the Leo Meany residence. Rev. Joseph Castle officiated. The coroner, Sidney Smith of Waterloo, reported that death was due to natural causes.
Mr. Strohecker was born in Polo, Ill., July 1, 1896, the son of Frank and Amelia Strohecker. He was a World War I veteran and never married. Mr. Strohecker was employed as a mechanic and a farm hand all his life while living in this vicinity.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two brothers.
Survivors include: a sister, Miss Pearl Strohecker of Geneva, Ill., and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary Strohecker of La Porte City.

Joe lived with his bachelor brother Bert in a small house in La Porte City. They were terrible housekeepers, but wonderful cooks. Their spring cleaning consisted of hanging their blankets outside each spring. They retained every newspaper in stacks throughout their home which left them only a pathway to navigate the house. They were always together and to pass the time they went to town to sit on benches in front of store fronts. One day they were headed to their brother Ed's farm on the Buckingham blacktop not far from Moorville when their tire popped. This did not phase them one bit as they continued on with their drive. The family could hear them coming as they ruined the rim. They were endeared uncles to Ed's children and grandchildren.

Joe ran Ed's threshing machine during harvest seasons and was employed as a mechanic at an automobile garage owned by Simon Kesstetter in La Porte City. He was remembered as having a bad scar on his face. Contributed by #48119566
