Meta never married. She died of pulmonary tuberculosis at Mesa Vista Sanitorium in Boulder, Colorado when only 46 years old. She had also spent time at Oakdale Sanitorium in Johnson County, Iowa. She moved to Colorado in 1931 because of the dry climate providing some ease of breathing. She was employed as a bookkeeper.
