James A. Best, 89, of Best Drive, Sigel died Monday, June 13, 2011 at the Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh.

Mr. Best was born on March 31, 1922 in Brookville. He was the son of Guy Alexander Best and Nula (Wayland) Best.

On June 12, 1943 in Brookville he married the former Alberta R. McCool who survives her husband.

Mr. Best was a veteran having served during World War II with the U.S. Army Coast Artillery at Ft. Hancock, N.J. He worked for Vanleer Lumber Company in Brookville and later was employed by Brown's Boot Shop in Brookville where he was the manager from 1974 to1986 and for Brown's Boot Shop in Clarion. Mr. Best was a charter member of the Sigel Volunteer Fire Department and a former member of the Clarion Rotary Club and Brookville American Legion Post 102, Jefferson County Fire Police and former member of the Jefferson County Fireman's Association, He enjoyed carpentry and farming, and especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Deanna R. Mohney, wife of Carl W. Mohney, of Sigel and Donna G. Kinol, wife of Dennis Kinol of Brookville, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, William Arthur Best of Franklin.

Hiis parents, brother, Franklin Lee Best, and sister, Martha (Best) Zukoski, predeceased him.

Visitation at the McKinney Funeral Home in Brookville will be on Thursday, June 16, 2011, from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, June 17 at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. Donald Ruge officiating.

Burial will be at the Mount Tabor Cemetery, Sigel, Eldred Township, Jefferson County, PA.
