Lyall Barnhart, Jr., died peacefully August 24, 1996 at home. Lyall was born February 5, 1923 to Oklahoma City banker Lyall Barnhart, Sr., and Harriet Melinda Scannell, and attended school in Oklahoma City at Putnam Heights, Harding, and Classen before finishing his secondary education at Kemper Military Academy in Booneville, Missouri. He attended the University of Oklahoma where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. While at O.U., he met and married Frances Lee Sledd in 1944 and was commissioned shortly thereafter with the 8th Air Force as a bomber pilot during World War II. He joined his grandfather, J.W. Scannell, at Scannell-Cochran Cattle Company, following the war, and remained in the business until his retirement in 1986 from Barnhart Cattle Company.

Lyall was preceded in death by his parents, Lyall and Linda Barnhart, and his brother, Bill. He leaves his wife of 52 years, Frances, as well as four children, Susan Barnhart Wade; Terry Sinclair and her husband Jack; Chris LeBoeuf; and Bill Barnhart and his wife Terri; along with 10 grandchildren, David and Jeffrey Wade; Coree, Barney and Sally Sinclair; Patrick, Sissy and Lindsay LeBoeuf; Jake and Cole Barnhart. Lyall was quite a remarkable man to those who knew him and he will be deeply missed by all who loved him. Funeral services will be held at All Souls Episcopal Church at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 28, with Bishop Shannon Mallory officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Hospice of Oklahoma County, Oklahoma City.
