Funeral services for Mrs. Effie Lloyd Buford were held Wednesday afternoon in the Methodist church with Rev. Guy B. Williamson, pastor of the Christian church officiating, Mrs. Kenneth Minteer and Mrs. James Strong sang two selections with Mrs. H. W. Trent accompanying at the piano.

There was a large attendance of old friends, many of whom were former pupils of the deceased. A number of friends were also present from adjoining towns.

Interment was in the Aledo cemetery with Keithsburg Rebekah lodge giving their funeral ritual at the grave.

Earl Elsworth, C. e. Barnett, George Acord, Dr. R. E. King, Burtram Fullerton and Guy Ditto served as pallbearers.

Mrs. Effie Lloyd Buford, eldest child of Lucian P. and Mary Cunningham Lloyd was born on the Lloyd farm in the Pomeroy neighborhood, Jan. 22, 1857 and passed away peacefully in her sleep Sunday night, after retiring in her usual health.

Mrs. Buford had been a resident of Keithsburg since her marriage to George W. Buford, Dec. 25, 1889. She was a teacher in the Keithsburg grade schools for 18 years and through her life maintained the friendship of her former pupils. Her sincere interest in them and her pride in their success added to her happiness. Charitable in her judgment she overlooked the short-comings of those who failed to make the grade.

She was educated in the rural schools of her community and attended the Aledo academy and Keokuk business college. She was a teacher in the county for 30 years.

She was a member of the Keithsburg Presbyterian church and attended the Methodist and Christian churches after its services were discontinued.

She was a member of Mary Burns chapter, O. E. S., and of the Keithsburg Rebekah lodge for more than 50 years and seldom missed a meeting of either order. She was also an active member of the Home Study club for 43 years.

Mr. Buford died in February, 1936. Her parents, a sister Mrs. Vannie Cabeen and a brother, William Lloyd preceded her in death.

Mrs. Buford was found dead her bed at 11:30 o'clock a. m. Monday. She had retired in her usual health Sunday night. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Chapman had moved last week to Mrs. Buford's home and Mrs. Chapman became alarmed when she did not respond when called Monday. Dr. R. G. Hickerson was called but before his arrival, her neighbor, Mrs. Sibyl Stanley arrived and upon entering her bedroom, found her dead.

Coroner Dr. V. A. McClanahan of Aledo was called and held an inquest Monday afternoon. The verdict was "death from natural causes."
