George W. Buford, aged 74 years, a lifelong resident of Keithsburg, committed suicide in the basement of his home there between the hours of 4 and 5 o'clock Tuesday morning. His wife hears the report of a gun and summoned a neighbor, H. I. Prouty, who found his lifeless body with a gunshot wound in the head.

Mr. Buford had been ill the past year and had suffered intensely the past month which was no doubt the cause of his suicide.

He had dressed in his hunting clothes and his wife had supposed to be going hunting. Coroner Dr. V. A. McClanahan of Aledo was called and empaneled a jury, with J. W. Miller, foreman and M. L. Kemp, clerk.

George Ditto, E. C. Loper and Wm. J. Taylor were other members of the jury, who gave a verdict that the deceased came to his death on the 28th of January by a self inflicted gun shot wound. Dr. T. D. Coe and H. I. Prouty of Keithsburg and Attorney James A Allen of Aledo were witnesses. Surviving Mr. Buford is his wife, Mrs. Effie Lloyd Buford.

Mr. Buford was well known in the county, having been active in fraternal orders for many years. He had operated a barber shop in Keithsburg for more than 40 years and was highly respected in that community.
