He and Louie married on September 12, 1908 in Delaware County, Indiana. They had three children, but only Harold (1914-1982) lived to adulthood.

According to his nephew, Del Patty, Ambrose Jones' primary work across his years was farming. He owned and resided at the first farm up the hill west of Unionport, Indiana. Ambrose was a widely known horse trader who would buy and sell horses, each for a slight profit, and made money even after draft horse use was declining. Ambrose usually kept a jack on the farm for stud service for those who raised mules.
