Born in Irwin Township, the daughter of John Walter Sr. and Catherine Elizabeth Ghost Huffman. On March 13, 1855, she married John Hovis, the son of George and Mary Ann Hoffman Hovis. She was the mother of Walter Lowry, Daniel John, George Austin, Simeon, Ayres M., Catherine (Clay), William Burton, Mary Etta (Davis), Taylor Phipps, Harry Nelson, Thomas Elmer and Hortence (Johnson, Rietter) Hovis.
