Born Barbara Kelse Huffman, the daughter of John Walter Sr and Catherine Elizabeth Ghost Huffman. On July 19,1827 she married Major John Phipps. She was the mother of John Jr., David, Catherine (Martin)), Philip Ghost, Nancy McKinley (Wareham), Martin VanBuren, Sarah Cassidy (Walter, Sopher), Joseph, Ghost Philip, Andrew Jackson, Barbara and Christeena (Beatty) Phipps.

Mrs Barbara C. Phipps passed to rest and reward at Barkeyville, July 25, 1898, in 89th year. Born December 2, 1809. Converted in early childhood... Mother of 12, seven of whom survive her - David, of Raymilton; Jackson and VanBuren, of Barkeyville; Mrs. Nancy Wareham, of Pearl; Mrs. Albert Sopher, of North Clarendon; Mrs. Joseph Martin of Wesley; and Mrs. H.C. Beatty of Barkeyville. Had lived to see her fifth generation...Ready to go to meet her husband, John Phipps, who passed over to the spirit world 22 years before. Since she has remianed at home... Service at the old homestead. by [grandson] Rev. David Martin, assissted by Rev. Cunninham and Rev. Woods. Largest funeral everheld in this section... laid to rest in country cemetery near Barkeyville. D.L.M.
