Census reports between 1810 to 1850 show John's family living in Irwin Township, Venango Co., PA. He was the father of 10 children between 1809 to 1831 who were all born in Irwin Township.
They named this children: James, Barbara Kelse (Phipps), Christena (Hoffman), John Walter Jr., Elizabeth M.(Surreana), Sarah Ann (Richards), Philip Ghost twin of Daniel John, Mary Annette (Adams), Katherine S. (Williams, Cokain), and Charlotte Ghost (Hovis) Huffman.
John Huffman came very early from Westmoreland Co., PA to Venango Co., PA, settling one mile west of what is now Clintonville. He chose a fine sightly spot for his home, where his grandson, Don Carlos Hoffman, now lives, and built the present residence during the Civil war.
John died there at his home in old age, soon after the war, and his wife, whose maiden name was Catharine Ghost, survived him several years. According to his plans the place passed to his son Philip Ghost Huffman, father of Don Carlos.
