Dies After Residence of Half Century Here
Mrs. Grethe O. Berg, aged 67, widow of the late O. A. Berg, a resident of Duluth for a half century, died yesterday at her home, 317 Twenty-second avenue west, following an illness of two years. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Seventh Day Adventist church on Tenth avenue east. Pastor Fred Wright of Superior will officiate.
Mrs. Berg leaves six daughters and two sons. They are Mrs. W. E. Newark of Charlotte, Mich.; Mrs. L. E. Lambert of Eveleth, Minn.; Mrs. S. A. Rhode, Mrs. Stella Widner, Misses Olyne A. Berg and Miss Nina F. Berg, and Sidney A., and Marvin R. Berg, all of Duluth.

Grethe Haaden met her future husband Ole Alt Berg in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. In 1870 at age 17 she moved to Duluth, Minnesota to be married, traveling via train to Staples, then by stagecoach from Staples to Duluth. They were married by Rev. Gilfillan, an Episcopal minister. She gave birth to 12 children, one of whom died in infancy (Gertrude), and three as children (Linda, Adolph and Olaf). Eight survived to adulthood.
