Carl August Zick was born in Gramenz, Kreis Neustettin, Pommern, Preussen on 15 December 1844 at noon to Martin Zick, stellmacher(wheelwright/wagonmaker) and Friedrike Hübner(Huebner). His christening on 22 December 1844 was recorded in the church book at Gramenz.

Obituary in the "Brillion News" :
Carl Zick, a well known pioneer of the town of Brillion, died on Jan. 7, at the home of his son, Benjamin Zick. Decedent was born in Germany. He came to America with hs parents in 1861. In 1874 he was united in marriage to Miss Albertina Persohn, the faithful wife who now survives him. He is survived by three sons, William and Edward of Kiel, and Benjamin who now owns the old homestead farm. Nine daughters survive, namely, Mrs. Minnie Schilling of Charlestown; Mrs. Ida Bastian, Mrs. Lizzie Bastian, Mrs. Hannah Keuer of Brillion, Miss May at home, Mrs. Katie Huebner, Forest Jct., Mrs. Amelia Wiese, Kewaunee, Mrs. Sarah Huebner, Crivitz, Miss Anetta of Neenah. There are also three brothers, Fred of Oshkosh, and William and Henry of the town of Brillion. The funeral took place Jan. 10, services being conducted at the Ger. M.E. Church by Rev. Moore. Interment was in the Bluff cemetery. The pallbearers were H.L. Bastian, Ernst Bastian, Wm. Keuer, Philip Schilling, Walter Huebner, Gust Huebner.
