William TRAVIS Milstead was likely named after his mother's brother, Travis Alexander Warden, while his uncle was probably named after his mother's brother, Travis Ashy (son of Halifax Ashby, Sr.).
My brother Rodney's middle name is also Travis, after Papa. Papa's grandson, Gary Travis Milstead, is another namesake example. There are others.
On 6 January 1901, Papa married Fannie Mattie Sullivan, daughter of John Henry "Gramp" Sullivan and Mildred "Milda" Caledonia Faulkner, in Lincoln Co., TN.
Papa was a blacksmith for a while (notice the picture with the horses...). He also farmed and later worked at Merrimack Mill in Huntsville; he, Mama, and a few kids lived there...Dimple was born there, in fact.
It is said Papa had a heart attack once he was told his son Billy had been killed in the war; he died only a few weeks after his son.
Incidentally, quite a number of his relatives are buried at Riverview.
As you enter the cemetery and drive to the right (see the cemetery photo below), the Milstead family plots are immediately on your left. EASY to find.
