Funeral services celebrating his life will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Schilling Funeral Home with the Reverend Steve Shepherd officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Cemetery, rural Mattoon. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
Richard was born March 11, 1915, in Louisville, one of fifteen children born to Alonzo and Elsie Beulah (Roberts) Osborn. He married Mildred Rardin on May 15, 1937. He later married Virginia Margaret Metzler on May 2, 1947. She passed away on February 7, 1995. He was also preceded in death by four children, Kay Tucker, Joyce Miller, David Osborne and Linda Osborne; six brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include his children, Paul E. Tucker and wife Harriett, Donald L. Osborne, Kenneth R. Osborne, and Jean Ann Eggers, all of Mattoon and Elisa Kappelman of Colorado Springs, Colorado; three brothers, Harold "Peanut" Osborne and wife Myrtle, Jessie "Jake" Osborne and wife Kate, and Harry Osborn and wife Charlene, all of Mattoon; two sisters, Eveline Waymoth of Mattoon and Thelma Blankenship and husband Cliff of Modesto, California; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Mr. Osborne served in the U.S. Army during World War II as an M.P. He worked for the A.J. Walker Construction Company as a bridge foreman for thirty-eight years and never asked a man to do what he wouldn't do himself. Richard was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and liked to pick blackberries with his grandchildren.
