He first married JoAnn Campbell in Savannah, GA. They had 2 children, Micheal and Pam. They divorced when the children were quite small. JoAnn remarried and her new husband adopted the children so we were told.
He moved to Sherman Texas in the mid 1960's where he met and married Nancy Katherine "Kacki" Wright. They had no children. She passed away from cancer. During this time, he worked both as a security guard and at a window manufacturing plant. Kacki was the mother of Ann Brooks Henry who had married James's nephew Nelson Henry.
He last married Cathy Bassham from Sherman Texas. They had one child, Amanda. When he retired, they moved to Swainsboro and later separated. Cathy returned to Texas for a short time, then returned to Swainsboro, GA.
He was living with his youngest sister Yvonne when he died from cancer.
He was easy going and loved to pick, play and tell stories. He told me about him and his brother (my granddaddy (Pearlie) going hunting one evening. They had walked quite a bit and were thirsty. My granddaddy bent over and drank from a branch (creek). Uncle James said that luckily, he didn't drink any water. As they walked on, they discovered a dead, bloated cow in the water, just up from where grandaddy had drank. My grandaddy got sick, threw up, and Uncle James picked on him for some time afterwards!
I'll always miss his stories!
