Funeral services were held last Thursday morning at the Foxworth cemetery for J. T. Holmes, 65, resident of Monticello for more than a year, who died in the Columbia Hospital following an illness of some weeks. On May 22, Mr. Holmes was found in an unconscious condition about a mile north of Monticello on the Gulf, Mobile and Northern railroad tracks. He was believed to have suffered a stroke and was removed to the hospital when found.
He operated a grocery business here near the depot. His wife died some years ago. He has several children, all of whom are grown. Among surviving daughter is Mrs. Clifton Wilson of Lawrence county. Sympathy is extended to bereaved relatives.
