Funeral Services For Joe N. Holmes Held in Columbia Home

Services were conducted March 28 in the chapel of the Colonial Funeral Home in Columbia for Joe N. Holmes, fifty-five, of the Monticello community, who died in the Lawrence County Hospital in Monticello after an illness of one week. Mr. Holmes was a former resident of Columbia.

Rev. Phil J. Walker, pastor of the Carmel Baptist church was in charge of the services and was assisted by Rev. Howard Aultman, pastor of the First Baptist church in Columbia. Mr. Holmes was buried in the Foxworth cemetery with the Colonial funeral Home of Columbia in charge. Pall bearers were Ben Pittman, Pearl Barber, Otis Henley, Frank Taylor, Cassie Holmes, Claude Holmes, Bobby Neal, Kenneth Herring, Van Holmes and Ronald Taylor.

A native of Marion county, Mr. Holmes was born at Foxworth and lived there and in Columbia until entering service in World War II when he served with the Army. Soon after the War he moved to the Carmel community where he had lived and operated an upholstery business. He was a member of the Union Baptist church in Walthall county.

He leaves two sisters: Mrs. Calvin Pittman, Columbia, and Mrs. Minnie Wilson, Monticello; two brothers: J. W. Holmes, Jackson, and E. G. Homes, Silver Creek.
