According to the History of Forest Hill and Community, Crawford County, Missouri:

'Of even greater influence than Mr. Allsman in the making of this and nearby districts was Mrs. William P. Allsman, Philena L. (Buckner) Allsman.
Her daughter, Mrs. Jacob Rohrer, kindly prepared this little biography of her mother for this publication:

"Philena L. (Buckner) Allsman was born in Clark County, Illinois, October 22, 1843 and began her teaching career when sixteen years old. She taught at different intervals after she was married and came to Missouri. She taught at
Huzzah, in the Harper neighborhood, which was her first school in Missouri, and later taught at Nixon and elsewhere. Her last school was Zion in the Crow and
Sappington neighborhood. At that time her last child was six years old. The directors had come to her to ask her to finish the term as a young girl had begun the school year but had difficulty in keeping order.

Mrs. Alsman was mother of ten children, five of whom died in infancy. Mrs. Allsman was a wonderful mother and friend to all when in need. She took a course in obstetric art in 1866 and helped many a mother during childbirth. The weather was never too cold or the night too dark for her to go where she was called. For her services as a midwife she used to charge $3.00 and she oftimes would stay a week to help care for the baby and mother and to do the housework. For these extra days the fee was $1.00.

Philena Allsman passed away April 3, 1939(sic) at the age of 86 leaving as a memorial a life of service seldom equaled in any era."'

Since she passed nearly 40 years after her husband, and since her daughter Elizabeth was nearby, Philena was buried in the same cemetery as Elizabeth's family, the Rohrers, about 10 miles from her husband.

Philena and her husband had 10 children together.
