Leaving Texas, they farmed poor land in Western Oklahoma near Longdale in Blaine County with Scott's brother Andrew Calvin Allsman. After 3 crop failures they lost the land and moved their family into a hole dug into the side of a hill outside Longdale, distant from water.
Mary Ellen and the daughters remained while Scott took Willie (Bill) to Montana to work in the mines at a young age to send money back to the family.
Once the children were grown, the couple moved into a small house in Longdale and worked odd jobs. They then moved to Bison, Kansas where Scott worked as a janitor at a school and the couple lived in the school's basement.
Rest in Peace, Grandpa Allsman.
