s/o Jesse William BUCKNER (abt 1820 IL-abt 1869 IL) & Isabel MILLER (abt 1821 IL-abt 1902). Richard married Mary Elizabeth FASIG (Jan. 16, 1850 IL-Dec. 1, 1886 IL) in 1873 in Clark Co., IL, d/o 1st cousins Christian (1825 PA-1901 IL) & Catharine Ellen FASIG (1826 PA-May, 1915 IL). ~|||~ American Civil War: Richard enlisted on Mar. 11, 1864 with the 14th Inf. Reg. Indiana, transferring to the 20th Inf. Reg. IN and serving until the war's end. Rank, Pvt. ~|||~ Richard was a farmer. He & Mary had seven children: Dora Elizabeth, Perry Comodore, William Frederick, Lula E. ("Dolly"), Jesse Grant ("Grant"), Edward D. ("Eddie"), &, Homer Meade BUCKNER. Interestingly, of the seven, Wm. Frederick & Homer became physicians, and, Dora performed as a midwife.
