Verda Verlee Narigon
Funeral services for Verda Lee Narigon, Red Oak, formerly of Villisca, were held Tuesday, September 23, 2003, at the United Methodist Church in Villisca. Burial was at the Villisca Cemetery.
Verda Lee Narigon was born on March 14, 1924, on the Waage home farm in Douglas Township, Montgomery County, Iowa, and was the youngest of ten children, born to Sam H. and Mary Emma (Rupp) Waage. She died Friday, September 19, 2003 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, IA.
In the 1940's, Verda moved to Villisca with her mother and worked at the Candy Kitchen. She was employed as dental assistant for Dr. Harold Sidwell in Villisca. Many years later, Verda managed the Villisca City Variety Store and was a checker and meat cutter at Weiner's grocery store.
On October, 31, 1944, Verda married Lt. Dwain Narigon in Villisca at the Methodist parsonage. During their years of military service, they lived at Fort Carson, Ft. Benning, St. Louis, Ft Dix, Ottawa and Burlington, IL, and a tour of Heilbronn, Germany.
Verda and Dwain retired on an acreage just north of Villisca in 1964 and moved to Red Oak in 1989. During their retirement, they spent many winters in southern Texas. She was a member of the Villisca United Methodist Church.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Dwain, in July 2001; her parents and all nine of her brothers and sisters - Harry, Ernest, Arthur, Russell, Ralph and Fay Waage, Mabel Govig, Lela Mullen and Cleo Calkins.
She is survived by her daughter, Nicky Eickerman, son-in-law Kim Eickerman, and granddaughter Hanna, all of Vancouver, WA; brother-in-law Kenneth Narigon and wife Gelda of Wildomar, CA; sister-in-law Winona Narigon of Ft. Madison, IA; sister-in-law Freda Waage Schenck of Red Oak, IA; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
