Margretha came to the United States in 1845. She married Bonaventura in St. Louis on January 29, 1849. After their first son was born there in 1852, they moved to Davenport in April 1855. Their other 5 children were born there. In the 1880's and 1890's, she ran a boarding home in their large family home at 1130 West 5th Street.

After Bonaventura died in 1899 and daughter Carrie died in 1901, she moved to Chicago to live with her daughter Fredericka Heinz Hanssen. She died there, and was buried in Davenport with her husband and daughter.

Margretha's maiden name has been spelled "Trenkenschuh" or "Drenkenschuh" in some places.
