Jefferson "Wesley" Heddins was the youngest of fourteen children born to Isaiah Lafayette & Julia Ann (Ballard) Heddins. He was born in the Crooked Creek community of Van Zandt County, Texas into a farming family. Wesley's paternal grandparents were James Heddins & Clarinda Lee Brewster who moved from Illinois to Texas in 1853. His maternal grandparents were Joshua Ballard, a Civil War veteran, and Louisa Boulton who moved from Alabama to Texas in about 1854.

On 25 May 1919 Wesley married Trudy Belle Parker, daughter of Frank Parker & Nancy Alabama Smith.

Wesley & Trudy Belle had two children, Floyd & Etolia. Wesley and his family were Baptists.
