Albert ("Alb") Heddins was a son of Isaiah Lafayette Heddins and Julia Ann (Ballard) Heddins. He was born in the Crooked Creek community of Van Zandt County, Texas into a farming family. Albert's paternal grandparents were James Heddins & Clarinda Lee Brewster who moved from Illinois to Texas in 1853. His maternal grandparents were Joshua Ballard, a Civil War veteran, and Louisa Boulton who moved from Alabama to Texas in about 1854.

On Oct. 18, 1915, Alb Heddins married Eula Frances Parker, daughter of Frank Parker & Nancy Alabama Smith. Alb & Eula Heddins raised nine children in Van Zandt County: Osa, Hazel, Margie, Haskel, Kirby, Irby, Ray, Marshall and Gayther Heddins. Some of their children and grandchildren left off the "s" in their surname and started going by Heddin.
