Laura Henrietta (Bailey) Shaffer died Tuesday November 20th 1951 at 11:20pm at the University Hospital in Iowa City Following an illness of several months.
Laura was born in Buchanan county, Iowa on November 28, 1869, the daughter of John Smith Bailey and Susanna Elizabeth Whisennand Bailey. She was Married to Elias Shaffer Jr. on August 12, 1888 in Buchanan county, Iowa. Except for four years in Minnesota, Laura and Elias Shaffer engaged in farming in the Troy Mills community for their entire life. Elias died in Troy Mills December 11, 1945.
Surviving are her children: Emmet Shaffer, Troy Mills, Mrs. Nora Walton, Center Point, Mrs. Mae Barnhill, Coggon, and Harold Shaffer, Troy Mills. A daughter, Mrs. Florence Baty, proceeded her in death. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and the following half-brothers: Orva and Joe Bailey, Cedar Rapids and Otis Bailey, Arcida California: half-sisters, Mrs Lena Hayes, Alhambra California, Mrs. Effie Snider, New Mexico, Mrs. Mary Marefield, Agra Kansas, Mrs. Anna Adams, Iowa City and Mrs. Elva Hendryx, Center Point.
Funeral services were held at the Christian church in Troy Mills Saturday, November 24th at 2:00pm conducted by the Rev. Koert Smith and the Rev. Clyde Scott. Music was furnished by Lois McKee, Ethel Schantz and Irma Chester. Pallbearers were Arlie Walton, Kenneth Shaffer, Willard Walton, Paul Baty, Minor Baty and Wayne Baty. Burial was in Troy Mills cemetery.
