Billy M. Cole, aged 88 years, rancher on Rock creek east of Clyde Park for 53 years, died at his home in Clyde Park early Saturday morning after a long illness. The body was removed to the Pemberton Funeral home, and services were held from the Pemberton chapel Tuesday afternoon with Masonic rites at the chapel and at the graveside in Mountain View cemetery.
Henry Reilly and Wm. Overy provided music for the services.
Active pallbearers were Gardner Gilpatrick, J. S. Klarr, Lee Warren, Chester Barrow, Dallas T. Mather and Virgil Terry.
Honorary pallbearers were Charles Logan, Carl Bowlds, Sam Shepherd, M. J. Schurrer, S. C. Prewett, Charles Briggs, Harry Richardson and Charles Hargis.
Mr. Cole was born at Miles Point, Mo. January 25, 1858. He came to Montana in 1884, locating first at Glendive. In 1887 he moved to the Gallatin valley and in 1892 he located the present Cole ranch on Rock creek, where he had resided continuously until ill health forced his retirement and he and Mrs. Cole moved to Clyde Park.
Mr. Cole had been a member of the Masonic order for over half a century.
He leaves his wife of Clyde Park; a son and a daughter, Mrs. George Sarver and Dee O. Cole, both of Clyde Park; three brothers, D. F. Cole of Nashua, R. H. Cole of Springdale, and I. J. Cole of Melstone; a sister, Mrs. Olive Bender, of Livingston; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
