Benjamin James Ouzts is the fifteenth child of Elizabeth HARLING and George Peter Ouzts I of Hoffenheim Germany and Edgefied District, SC.

Benjamin James Ouzts married Permelia (Melda) STILL, daughter of Elizabeth (Betsy) BEAN and Joseph Still, in 1839 in Edgefield, County, SC. They had eight children: Elbert M., Caroline Lula (Carrie), twin Daughters who died at birth, Jane Virginia E. (Jennie), Temperence(Tempie), David Thomas, Sr., and Washington Joseph.

He is the Patriarch of the Benjamin Ouzts Line.

The Newer Ground Cemetery is located on the original Benjamin Ouzts estate.
