Services Held for Ivan Berney, 87 --

Ivan J. Berney died Thursday, October 23, 1997 at the hospital in St. Paul.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 27, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wolbach. The Rev. Marsha Jark-Swain officiated, Marilyn Paulman, organist, accompanied Harriet Steenson as she sang "In the Garden" and "The Lord's Prayer" and the congregational hymns of "Softly and Tenderly" and "How Great Thou Art."

Interment was in Hillside Cemetery at Wolbach. Pallbearers were Don Berney, Dick Berney, Ralph Taylor, Roger Berney, Rodney Berney and Ernest Newquist.
Jacobsen Funeral Home at St. Paul was in charge of arrangements.

Ivan J. Berney, son of John and Emma (Imus) Berney, was born on the family farm northeast of Wolbach on April 22, 1910.

He attended grade school at District #27 and graduated from the Wolbach High School in 1928. He helped on the family farm until 1950 and worked part time at Nielsen Implement in Wolbach and then at Sargent.

Mr. Berney made his home from 1951 until the late 70's with his nephew John, his wife Frances and their three children, Nancy, Robyn and Rodney in Nebraska, Illinois and Virginia. From the late 1970's until the present he made his home in Wolbach.

Survivors include three brothers, Austin of Wolbach, Lowell "Tike" of Trenton, Missouri and Carroll of Dayton, Ohio and a sister-in-law Willa Berney of Wolbach.

He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers, Raymond, Reed, Lowell, William, Lawrence and Frank.
