Funeral services for Martin Thompson were held at Trinity Lutheran Church of New London, Friday, January 6, 1967, with Pastor B. R. Quanbeck officiating. Mr. Thompson passed away January 3 at the Glen Oaks Rehabilitation Home in New London at the age of 69 years. Pastor Hermunslie sang two solos: "The Old Rugged Cross" and "He the Pearly Gates Will Open" with Mrs. Soren Hille presiding at the organ. Pallbearers were Richard Oman, Clifford Dokkesven, Otto Berkeland, Kenneth Gravley, Soren Hille and Dawson Seaver. Interment was in Green Lake Cemetery.
Martin was born in Green Lake Township, Kandiyohi County, July 12, 1867, the son of Thomas and Melia Thompson. He was baptized in the Green Lake Lutheran Church and confirmed by Rev. T. A. Johanson in 1912.
In February 1922 he was united. in marriage to Helga Monson of Hawick. To this union five children were born: Marvin, now of Spokane, Washington; Alton of Babitt; Hubert of Murdock; Norma (Mrs. Charles deCathelineau) of Spicer; and Genevieve (Mrs. Robert Barber) of Osseo. Twelve grandchildren survive also. Mrs. Thompson passed away in June 1931.
In May 1935 he was married to Martha Martinson of Spicer. They made their home in New London where he was an employee of Holm Bros. for 24 years. He was a mernber of Trinity Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife Martha, his children, and the following brothers and sisters: Carl, Julia (Mrs. Elmer Monson), Manda (Mrs. Walter Skoglund), Albin, Joseph, and Ellen of Spicer, Elmer of Kandiyohi; William of Atwater; and Newman of Annandale. Several nephews, nieces and cousins also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister in infancy, and a brother, Oscar, who passed away January 1917.
