Mrs. Ura Lawrence Scott, a member of one of the pioneer families of Arlie, who were instrumental in development of that area, died in Collingsworth General Hospital at 2:20 p.m. Wednesday, December 10.
She moved into Wellington about 10 years ago and was a resident of Thomas Nursing Center at the time of her death. The daughter of the late Levi Lawrence and Nancy Payne Lawrence, she was born at Arlie August 28, 1900. With her brothers and sisters, she attended the Arlie School. On September 7, 1919, she was married to J.A. (Fonnie) Scott, whose family was among the first to live in the area between Hollis and Dodson. Mr. and Mr. Scott lived at Dodson a few years, then moved to their farm at Loco, located just south of the Childress County line on Highway US 83. They lived there until his death January 20, 1968, and she remained about two years longer, before moving into town. Mrs. Scott was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Vermeil de Yampert of Presidio; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Scott and Mrs. Lucille West of Wellington and Mrs. Florene Moore of Amarillo; three grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, were two brothers and a sister, Clair Lawrence, Jake Lawrence and Mrs. Georgia Lemley.
