Lynn was raised with his siblings on a farm in El Centro, California. In the early '40s, Lynn moved to Tombstone, AZ and worked with his brother, Marshall, in the Bisbee mine as a copper mucker. From 1942-43 he worked in Honduras on The Pan American Highway being deferred from the draft because of his hearing, then farming, plus three kids. Lynn was married three times and fathered 16 children.

Lynn was the 3rd great grandson of the famous explorer Colonel Daniel Boone. He was the great-grandson of the Missouri pioneers Thomas and Lydia Taylor.
