Zola Haigh, Des Moines

Zola F. McDonald Haigh, 92, died on Saturday, April 15, 2017, with her family by her side at Kavanagh House in Des Moines.

The visitation and funeral will be on Saturday, April 22, at Iles Westover Chapel in Des Moines. The visitation will be at 10 a.m. with the funeral following at 11 a.m. There will be a graveside service at the McDonald-Chase Cemetery in Winterset at 4 p.m., Saturday, April 22, for anyone wishing to attend. Memorial Contributions can be made to Amanda the Panda or PEO "Program for Continuing Education".

Zola was born on Aug. 21, 1924, in Winterset, Iowa to Gladys and Wallace McDonald. She graduated from Winterset High School in 1941. After graduating from Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines, she worked for the Air Force and Selective Service System. In 1946, she married Harry Haigh and they lived in their south side home until moving to The Reserve on Walnut Creek in Urbandale, in 2002. Zola's last years were spent at Bickford Cottage in Urbandale. She was a member of PEO and Park Avenue Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; infant son, Joel; her parents; and six brothers, Wayne, Harold, Scott, Leonard, Paul and Melvin McDonald.

She is survived by her two sons, Gene Haigh (Beth) of Urbandale and John Haigh (Michelle) of Boston, four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Jim McDonald of Winterset; and sister, Barbara Corkrean of Winterset.
