She attended New Hope School and graduated from Waynesboro High School. Along with her husband, she managed the Piedmont Department Store in downtown Waynesboro in the late 1940s. Following her husband's retirement from People's Drug Store in Manassas, she returned to Waynesboro where she was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Winfred Steele McCormick, in 1990; three sisters, Nellie Carroll, Edith Hutchens and Ruth E. Diehl; and a brother, Warren O. Diehl.
Surviving are her daughter, Sandra M. Brady and her husband, Dennis, of Irving, Texas; three sisters, Janet D. Patience of Waynesboro, Wanda D. Lester of Stuarts Draft, and Lillian D. Farrar of Richmond; two granddaughters, Stephanie B. Smith of Garland, Texas, and Jennifer B. McCarter of Austin, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Erin Grace and Bradyn John Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. April 2, 2006, at Westminster Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Dr. Jon Lovelady. Interment will be private in Riverview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. April 1, 2006, at McDow Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 1920-H Medical Ave., Harrisonburg, Va., 22801, or Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1904 Mount Vernon St., Waynesboro, Va., 22980.
