Mary was born in Gorrels Run, in Tyler County, WV. She was the tenth child of George Washington Eller and his wife, Charlotte Miller, both of Ohio. She grew up on her parents' farm in Tyler County.

Mary was married to Earl Bunner on June 29, 1922 in Grafton, by E. H. Waters, U. B. Minister. Earl was the son of Jonathan Bunner and his wife Miranda Jane Moran. Earl worked for the railroad as a fireman and Mary was a beautician.

Mary and Earl had no children. Earl died of cancer on October 26, 1927 and Mary died of a pulmonary embolism at her home, 133 High Street, on August 22, 1930.
