Per his marriage license, George was born in Belmont County, Ohio. The delayed birth certificates of two of his children state that he was born in Temperanceville. His county of birth on his death certificate was Washington, but the informant was the undertaker. The names of his parents are unknown, however family lore says his mother was a DeLong. It was also said that his parents died when he was 7 and he was then raised by the DeLongs.

George married Charlotte Miller, the daughter of John Miller and his wife, Sarah Strosnider, on July 17, 1878. They married in Tyler County, WV at the home of the bride's father, Rev. Samuel Warner officiating.

By the 1880 census, George, Charlotte and Pearley were living in the Meade District of Tyler County and George was a farmer.

In the 1900 census, the family was living in the McElroy District of Tyler County.

George and Charlotte had eleven children:

George spelled his name Eller - Charlotte and most of their children began spelling the surname Ellers later in life.

George died of consumption. His son Peter is buried next to him.
