Allen C. Conn (as he mostly left out the "Dean" part of his name) served in the Confederate Army. He enlisted in Company E, Georgia 36th Infantry Regiment on April 5, 1862 as a private. On May 15, 1863, Allen was promoted to full 4th Sergeant. He was commanded by Colonel C.E. Broyles.
On November 25, 1863, while engaged in military service at the Battle of Missionary Ridge around Chattanooga, Tennessee, A.C. Conn was wounded by a bullet in the left leg above the knee. Immediately to prevent gangrene, the leg was amputated above the knee.
On March 22, 1866, Allen C. D. Conn married Margaret Purcell in Cherokee County, GA (Cherokee County Marriage Book D, p. 269). They had ten children of which 5 made it to adulthood: Dora D.(Mrs. Marcus Lafayette Holcomb), Tallula V. "Lula" (Mrs. Starling Richards), Walter LaFette "Fate", Alfred "Webb", and Homer Lee Conn. (Dr. Alfred "Webb" Conn became a physican and resided in Brunswick, Glynn County, GA. He and his wife are buried at Palmetto Cemetery and their find a grave memorial numbers are #29768941 and #29768958.)
In life, Judge A.C. Conn served for twelve years as Ordinary of Cherokee County and at one time Cherokee County Tax Collector. Early in life, farming was his occupation.
On Thursday evening around 5 PM, on May 26, 1921, Judge Conn died of cystitis of which was a continued illness for several years. The funeral was held on Friday evening, May 27, 1921, at the First Baptist Church where he had been a member and deacon. The service was conducted by the Rev. W.H. Moody.
