The Conn's Creek area was named for Samuel Conn. It is believed that he obtained the land by trading ponies with the Cherokee Indians, and remained a friend with them. He was not involved in the Indian removal in the 1830s.
It is rumored that he allowed local Indians to bury some of the valuables on his land until they could return to claim it. (Don't go looking. It's believed that they returned in 1878, and again in 1909 to retrieve the items left behind.)

Samuel Cicero Conn married Elizabeth "Betsy" Ingram April 11, 1830 in Hall County, Georgia by Fr. Whelchel, Justice of the Peace(Hall County Marriages, Book A, 1819-1870 # 703). They had thirteen children named Francis, George, Daniel, Thomas, James, Celia, Harriett, Allen, Taylor, Satarrah, Alfred, Alsey and Lucinda.

Samuel Conn was a farmer and he was ordained a deacon June 9, 1848 at Conn's Creek Baptist Church.

Samuel Conn had an accidental death in which the barn loft full of corn caved in on him and he was buried beneath the corn which caused him to smother to death.

(Samuel Conn is my maternal four times great grandfather.)

Inscription

Sacred to the memory of Samuel Con
who was born June 12, 1809
and who departed this life November 3, 1873
He lived a consistant member of the Baptist Church for 26 years

O land of rest for thee Ive sighed
And now the moments come
When I have laid my armour by
To dwell with Christ at home.

No tranquil joys on earth Ive known
No peaceful sheltering dame
This world a wilderness of wo
This world was not my home.
