Architect. Commissioned as the architect in Washington D.C. to redesign the U. S. Capitol. He added the famous dome and the east and west wings that house the Senate and Library. He was the architect appointed by the President prior to the War between the States, through the war period and just after the war. What the Capitol looks like today was his designs. He also designed several more famous buildings in Washington, Philadelphia, and many others in the eastern part of the United States.
