Mary Ann Elizabeth Hancocks, daughter of Robert Hancocks and Mary Ann Elizabeth Hendel, was a native of Philadelphia. She married Thomas Ustick Walter, son of Joseph Saunders Walter and Deborah Wood, on 11 May 1824. Mary Ann died at the age of forty, nine days after the birth of her eleventh child. She was interred in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia on 23 Jan 1847. Her widowed husband, a renowned architect, remarried.
