RUTH HASH PHIPPS
(January 5, 1914 - May 17, 2011)

She was born at Harlowton, Montana to Charles Gleason and Christie Halsey Hash.
Ruth was the first of ten children and quickly learned the values of hard work, and dedication to family and God.

She graduated from Oak Hill Academy.
Ruth married Paul J. Phipps on December 21, 1935, forming a union that held strong for 63 years.

A lifelong homemaker, she took pleasure in keeping a neat house and feeding all who appeared at her door. She had a warm, welcoming smile and always said she had never met a stranger. Ruth embodied the Christian spirit of service. She was a Sunday School teacher to several generations, teaching that Jesus loved us all. Ruth was a charter member of the Women's Missionary Union at Young's Chapel Baptist Church. She brought delight to many children's lives when serving as a foster grandparent at Piney Creek School. She radiated devotion in everything she did, and her spirit will live on in the lives she touched.

Family members left to cherish Ruth's memory include: Son & daughter-in-law, Lewis & Myrtle Phipps of Piney Creek, NC; one grandson & spouse, Craig & Michelle Phipps of Piney Creek, NC; one granddaughter & spouse, Lynn & Tim Mockus of Greenville, N.C.; three great-grandchildren, Kendra and Karley Phipps and Savannah Mockus; three brothers & spouses, Kelly & Nena Hash and Dale & Myra Hash of Galax, Va.; and Alex & Barbara Hash of Central, SC; two sisters, June & Roy Miller of Bluefield, WV and Kathleen Arrington of Vinton, VA and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral service will be conducted Thursday, May 19, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Young's Chapel Baptist Church, Mouth of Wilson, VA; The Rev. Hal Eaton and the Rev. Doug Turnmire officiates.

Interment in Young's Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time for the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests consider memorial contributions to Young's Chapel Baptist Church Memorial Fund, c/o Rhonda Bowen, 2679 Oak Hill Road, Mouth of Wilson, Va 24363 or Mountain Valley Hospice, 688 N. Bridge Street, Elkin, NC 28621

Following the service, friends and family are invited for food and fellowship at the Youngs Chapel Baptist Church Fellowship Hall
