Mr. Phillips was born March 11, 1908, in Kansas City, where he lived all his life. He was a supervisor with Albers Milling Company for 40 years, retiring in 1972. He was married to Mildred Pauline Aston on September 10, 1927. Mr. Phillips was a member of the Rockwood Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Don E. Phillips, in 1993. Surviving are his wife, Pauline, of the home; four sons, James A. Phillips, Jr., Independence, Robert Lee Phillips and Larry Dave Phillips, both of Climax Springs, and Terry Wayne Phillips, Dover; four daughters, Mildred Alice Brecht, Lee's Summit, Barbara Jean McNurlin, Judy Diane Shockey, and Gail Lynn Franklin, all of Independence; 41 grandchildren, 86 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
