Don E. Phillips, 62, Independence, died May 8, 1993, at the home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel; burial in Mount Washington Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. Mr. Phillips was a lifelong area resident. He was a steel worker for Armco Inc. for 33 years, retiring in 1987. He was a Marine veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Independence. Survivors include his wife, Celestine L. Phillips of the home; three daughters, Peggy L. Allen, Blue Springs, Mary Ann Tolle, Rayville in Ray County, and Sherri Courtwright, Independence; his parents, James and Pauline Phillips of Independence; four brothers, Albert Phillips and Terry Phillips of Independence and Robert Phillips and Larry Phillips of Climax Springs, Mo.; four sisters, Barbara McNurlin, Judy Shockley and Gail Franklin of Independence and Mildred Alice Brecht, Lee's Summit; and seven grandchildren.
